There’s a new Jury Room off Dennis F. Ryan Parkway in Quincy, and it’s not in the district court. It’s Hanover restaurateur Clint Smith’s latest restaurant-bar combo, this time with a legal twist.

The 2,000-square-foot restaurant with seats for 99 people opened Tuesday at the corner of Chestnut Street and Cottage Avenue, in view of the courthouse that inspired its theme. And while it’s only been in the works for seven weeks, Smith said he’s had his eye on creating a restaurant in the space, which was formerly occupied by a church, for more than a decade.

Smith, a food service veteran who spent much of the last decade working as a landlord and in real estate, returned to the food service industry three years ago when he purchased The Cellar Tavern on North Avenue in Abington. So when his father-in-law asked if he’d like to fill the Quincy space earlier this year, Smith said he jumped at the opportunity.

The restaurant has a distinctively legal theme – from the Johnnie Cochran quote stenciled at its entrance to sandwich names like the “Due Process Chicken Club” – and a deliberately urban feel.

“We’ve brought Boston to Quincy,” Smith said.

He said a contributing factor in his decision to make the $300,000-plus investment was the burgeoning restaurant scene in downtown Quincy, including the established Alba Bar & Grill and the new, yet thriving, Fat Cat, each a block away in different directions.

“It’s almost like a Southie feel going on here,” he said.
